Bengals To Sign Irv Smith Jr.

Estimated Reading Time: 45s

The Cincinnati Bengals are signing former Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr to a one-year contract, Peter Schrager of FOX Sports reported late Monday night.

Smith, who has been with the Vikings for the past four seasons, now lands in a spot where he has the chance to flourish due to the loaded Bengals offense.

The one-year deal for Smith is comparable to the one-year, $3.5 million contract that tight end Hayden Hurst signed with Cincinnati last off-season. Hurst has since found a new home — the Panthers on a three-year, $21 million contract.

While he battled an injury most of the season, Smith showed he can be a reliable option for an offense. He has 858 career receiving yards and nine career receiving touchdowns.

He has multiple offers elsewhere, Schrager explained, but he chose the Bengals because of the opportunity to win.
