José Ramirez, Guardians Agree to 5-Year, $124M Extension

After long, grueling weeks of negotiations, the Cleveland Guardians have finally locked up their All-Star third baseman.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Guardians and their All-Star third baseman José Ramirez have agreed to a contract extension that is for five years and is worth $124 million. The deal reportedly includes a full no-trade clause for Ramirez — who had been at the forefront of many trade talks in the past few weeks.

Cleveland now has Ramirez locked in until his age-35 season and his contract is Cleveland’s first contract guaranteed beyond 2022. They are looking to complete a successful reshape of their roster and get back to competing in the playoffs again.

Ramirez, 29, has been with the Guardians since 2013, a total of nine seasons. In those nine seasons, Ramirez has a batting average of .278 and has a total of 163 homeruns. He is a three time All-Star and is also a three time Silver Slugger.
