Marvin Jones Jr, Lions Set For Reunion

Marvin Jones Jr, Lions Set For Reunion

Just two years after his departure from the Detroit Lions organization, a familiar face will be returning — Marvin Jones Jr.

Jones, who is an 11-year veteran wide receiver, announced on social media Wednesday afternoon that he will be returning to Detroit — the place that his career truly took off. He was with the Lions from 2016-2020 before signing a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The deal with Jacksonville has expired and Jones now heads back to the Lions, agreeing to a one-year contract with a base value of $3 million, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The deal has incentives that can push the number to $5 million.

Jones’ two-year deal that he signed with Jacksonville in 2021 was worth $6 million. The 33-year old receiver will have his base pay cut in half for his second go with Detroit.

Last season, the veteran receiver had 46 receptions for 529 yards and three receiving touchdowns. In 2017 with the Lions, Jones posted 61 receptions, gaining 1,101 receiving yards and getting in the end zone nine times.

Detroit lost free-agent receiver DJ Chark to the Carolina Panthers recently leaving Jones projected as the team’s third receiver.
