The New York Giants are 4-1, sitting tied for second place in the NFC East, one of the NFL’s best divisions when it comes to record. New York though, isn’t satisfied. The Giants want to make a run in trying to win the entire division.
New York’s middle-of-the-road receiving corps has been a main topic of discussion. Quarterback Daniel Jones is stuck throwing to fourth and fifth-string receivers, according to the depth charts. 27-year-old receiver Richie James, at 171 yards through five games, is the Giants’ leading receiver in yards. James has never even posted over 400 yards in a season. It’s not a knock on James at all, who has stepped up big-time and made some nice plays this season.
Giants WRs Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay are two guys who had big expectations going into the season but just haven’t sufficed. It is mainly due to injury, which is uncontrollable, but New York is looking to upgrade now.
The Giants are open to listening to trade offers for Toney, a source said. He was drafted by New York with the 20th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Giants aren’t actively shopping Toney, though, as they would be happy to keep him and his potential, but they would be open to doing a deal at the right price.
Toney, the second-year receiver, has 23 total yards this season, with all of those yards coming from two rushes on the ground. He suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the season and has been banged up ever since. He hasn’t played since week two against the Panthers.
His agility and ability to get downfield in a hurry is enticing to teams. A source told The Sports Place that a few teams have actually called the Giants, checking in on Toney’s availability.
The NFL’s trade deadline is set for November 1st at 4:00 PM EST.
Another New York Giants wide receiver who could be traded before the trade deadline — Kenny Golladay.
Just two off-seasons ago, Golladay and the Giants agreed to a lucrative four-year, $72M contract, after he consistently led the Detroit Lions receiving group in his first few seasons in the league. Golladay has since slowed down, and the slowing has been rapid.
A source told The Sports Place that the New York Giants, who have been actively shopping Golladay, have not been able to garner much interest around the NFL. The only scenario where another team would take on Golladay would be if New York was willing to take on some of his salary. Golladay’s cap hit for this season is $21M, which would be difficult for any team to take on.
The former third-round draft pick in the 2017 draft has two catches this season for 22 total receiving yards. He is currently recovering from a sprained MCL.
