Stefon Diggs Conflict: What’s Happening?

Over the span of the last two days, unforeseen drama has been brewing within the Blizzard City of Buffalo

At the forefront of all the news is All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who has been absent from day one of mandatory minicamp, but has reported back for day two.

The underlying story here does not seem to fall within contract issues but instead an ongoing issue within the organization between Diggs and the team. While we can not assume any one of those things to be true, the speculative remarks from head coach Sean Mcdermott puts this more into question.

McDermott said in a conference Monday to reporters that he is “very concerned” and added “I’m not going to get into it”.

While the return of Diggs to day two of minicamp adds a feeling of relief to Buffalo fans, the sense of doubt still remains. People close to the situation have said that Diggs came back to the facility with a different attitude this afternoon.

The Buffalo Bills saw their 2022 season end on their home field to the Cincinnati Bengals with a final score of 27-10. Immediately after the game, Diggs was seen exiting the tunnel before coaches had even made it back off of the field. There was also the infamous clip of Diggs throwing his hands up in the air and speaking out to Josh Allen on the sideline.

While this situation could have been simply two elite competitors being unhappy with their result in the heat of the moment, it had always come across as something more because in most circumstances, a player as good as Josh Allen and a player as good as Stefon Diggs —with the love they had shown for each other many of times before — would not simply “blame” one another for a loss.

Diggs finished the game with four catches for 35 yards — numbers a guy like Diggs does not typically have in a game like that. While there were many factors including the snow, the Bengals game planning, and the overall emotions of the 2022 Buffalo Bills team, Buffalo struggled to get the ball to their best player in the brightest moment.

Which is ultimately what seems to be the overall issue that Diggs has. He certainly is not unhappy with his contract situation as he is set to earn $24.415 million this upcoming year.

Following the return of Diggs on Wednesday, McDermott explained that he had excused the star receiver from practice on Tuesday:

“I gave Stef permission to get some space and head out [yesterday],” McDermott said. “He was excused from me.”
