Washington Football Team: A New Name

Early Tuesday morning, Jason Wright — the Team President of the Washington Football Team — announced multiple things regarding the rebranding of the franchise. Wright, who has been a part of Washington since 2020, announced that the team will be going public with their rebranding on February 2, 2022.

“We can’t wait to reveal our team name to the world on Feb. 2, 2022! Mark your calendars, Washington Family. This is not a day you’ll want to miss!”

Wright also announced in the article that the organization has eliminated two of its choices — Wolves and RedWolves. The two names were favorites and loved by many since the start, but Washington was not able to use the name due to legal issues.

“Once we began looking into Wolves, however, we became aware of a notable challenge: trademarks held by other teams would limit our ability to make the name our own. And without Wolves, variations like RedWolves wouldn’t have been viable either for these and other reasons.”
