University of Michigan signs Head Coach Jim Harbaugh to Extension

The University of Michigan announced early Wednesday evening that they have signed their Head Football Coach, Jim Harbaugh, to a new five-year extension.

Harbaugh, 58, helped lead the Wolverines to a 12-2 record in 2021-22, losing in the College Football Playoffs to the eventual champions — Georgia.

Harbaugh and Michigan secured big wins against #6 ranked Ohio State and #23 ranked Iowa. The Wolverines also lost 37-33 in a shootout against Michigan State, who was 7-0 at the time and ended up finishing as the ninth ranked team in the nation.

The Wolverines Head Coach was rumored to be leaving the college in order to pursue a job at the NFL level, but ultimately decided that he wanted to stay Michigan. He was rumored to be headed to Minnesota at one point, but Harbaugh decided to stay as Minnesota chose to hire Rams Offensive Coordinator Kevin O’Connell.

When asked about his new extension with the school, Harbaugh showed off his excitement:

“I love Michigan Football, the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor community. My family and I are excited to continue leading this football program, and we are thankful for the support that our athletic department and university administration have demonstrated toward the team. I appreciate all that our players, coaches and staff are doing to excel on and off the football field. My enthusiasm for tomorrow, the day after and every day following is as high as ever, and we are ready to get on the practice field and start preparations for the 2022 season. Go Blue!”

In his seven seasons with Michigan, Harbaugh led the school to a 61-24 overall record, and will now look to add more to the win column in the coming years as he is under contract with the school until 2026.
