Baltimore Orioles Look To Stop Skid. Call Up #14 Ranked Prospect.

The Baltimore Orioles are reaching back into the seemingly bottomless bag of tricks that is their farm system, as they call up outfielder Colton Cowser. In only eight days, Baltimore has called two top 50 prospects up to the big leagues.

The Orioles look to stop their skid and avoid getting swept by the New York Yankees. They have lost six of their last seven. Despite this, Baltimore maintains a two-game lead in the wild card.

Infielder Jordan Westburg made his debut on June 27th and is batting .307 in his short seven-game MLB life. He is ranked #32 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects of 2023

More than halfway up the list sits Colton Cowser. The man making his debut in the outfield of Yankee Stadium tonight. He was hitting .330/.459/.537 in Triple-A ball this season. He has 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 56 games so far.

Cowser isn’t close to the end of the list. The Orioles also hold the number one prospect, Jackson Holiday. The 19-year-old was the number one pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.

In total, the Orioles have eight players ranked in the top 100, and just three have broken through to the majors.

The young ones have been an incredible benefit to the Orioles and are a major contributing factor to Baltimore’s success in the first half of the season.

Cowser will have a tough time playing consistently, as Cedric Mullins, Anthony Santander, and Austin Hays have the grass well covered. But with a bruised hip, Hays will take a seat for the rookie.
