Bears fire Nagy; Vikings fire Zimmer

On Sunday, the 6-10 Bears and 7-9 Vikings played in a game that meant nothing for the playoffs. The Vikings took the win 31-17. Heading into the game, there were built up rumblings on both sides that both coaches could possibly be fired. These rumblings turned out to be true as Matt Nagy and Mike Zimmer were both fired Monday morning.

Matt Nagy coached four seasons for the Bears, making and losing in the playoffs twice, totaling a 34-33 record. Mike Zimmer coached eight seasons for the Vikings and had a record of 74-59-1, with 2 wins and 3 losses coming in the playoffs.

Not only did the coaches get fired though. Bears GM Ryan Pace was also fired along with Vikings GM Rick Spielman. So, both teams are blowing it up.

Some possible replacements for both teams include Jim Caldwell, former Lions Head Coach, Brian Flores, who got unexpectedly fired by the Dolphins, Doug Pederson, former Head Coach for Philadelphia, Kellen Moore, who is the offensive coordinator in Dallas, and Eric Bienemy, who is the Chiefs offensive coordinator.

The Bears and Vikings both have enticing job openings.

The Bears have a young QB in Justin Fields who has potential to be a star, a good veteran defense, a great place to play, a top 10 pick in this year’s draft, and they are in the top half of the league in cap space.

The Vikings have two superstars on offense that they can build around, they are a good secondary away from a great defense, and pick at number 12 in this year’s draft. So, two very good spots that need to be filled. We will see how this plays out.
