Buccaneers Tagging Chris Godwin

The Buccaneers are placing the franchise tag on Chris Godwin

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are placing the franchise tag on star wide receiver Chris Godwin, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Godwin is coming off a torn ACL in the 2021-22 NFL season and the two sides are using the franchise tag as a way to continue exclusive long-term negotiations.

The 26-year old posted over 1,100 years in 2021 despite only playing in 14 of them before tearing his ACL. Both sides want to get a long-term deal done and have interest in keeping Godwin a Buccaneer.

Godwin suffered the injury on December 19th in a game against the Saints. An average torn ACL recovery time is around 6-9 months which, assuming it would be nine, would put him at the middle of September — towards the beginning of the 2022-23 NFL season.
