While the top wide receivers in the 2023 NFL Draft Class are being talked about by a plethora of people around football, there are a few wide receiver prospects who may be getting overlooked. One of those receivers — Puka Nacua from BYU.
Nacua, who is a 6’1″ receiver, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He originally committed to USC, but flipped his commitment to the University of Washington. After two seasons with minimal opportunities, he decided to transfer to BYU.
In two seasons at Brigham Young University, he started fourteen games totaling 1,430 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2022, Nacua was named to All-Independent First Team honors by Phil Steele, College Football Network, and Pro Football Network. He was also given the Independent Wide Receiver of the Year by Pro Football Network and College Football Network in 2022.
As the 21-year-old receiver now prepares for the NFL Draft, he is meeting with a plethora of teams, according to a source.
At the end of the week, Nacua will be meeting virtually with the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots, a source said. Among the teams that he has met with in person, according to the source — the Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts.
The Provo, Utah native is projected to be a day three pick in the NFL Draft at the end of April. At his pro day, Nacua ran a 4.55 40-yard dash and had a 33 inch vertical.
A source told The Sports Place that he has also met with five other teams virtually; the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, and the New York Jets.
When targeted downfield, Nacua’s QB Rating in 2021 was an elite 128.0 and in 2022 it stayed at an astronomical number of 119.3. Even through an injury-riddled season in 2022, he had 48 catches for 625 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
He brings a lot of untapped potential along with elite receiving skills and football awareness to any team that selects him.
