Cardinals Release DeAndre Hopkins

The Arizona Cardinals released superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on Friday (5/26), the team announced.

Hopkins had 717 yards and 3 touchdowns on 63 receptions in a short 2022 season in which he was sidelined due to suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Drug (PED) Policy. In his career, which includes 7 years with the Houston Texans and 3 years with the Arizona Cardinals, Hopkins career statistics feature 11,298 yards and 71 touchdowns on 853 receptions.

This roster move came as a surprise to the football world as Hopkins was known to be one of the top receivers in the league going into the 2021 season.

Regarding his future: Hopkins said recently in an appearance on the “I Am Athlete” podcast that there were five quarterback he would most like to play for. This list included Josh Allen of the Bills, Jalen Hurts of the Eagles, Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, and Justin Herbert of the Chargers.

He also said on the podcast he is looking for passion and leadership from the quarterback position, a very strong defense, and stable management.

Heading into his 11th season in the NFL, the 30 year old will add a very strong veteran presence to the team that makes the decision to go out and grab him.
