Derrick Rose, Grizzlies Agree to Contract

Derrick Rose is signing a multi-year contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to SNY reporter Ian Begley.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that it will be a two-year deal.

Rose, who spent the past three seasons with the New York Knicks, is now eyeing a new opportunity with the Grizzlies.

In the 2022-23 season, Rose averaged 5.6 points in just 12.5 minutes per game with the Knicks. While his numbers may not have been stellar, Rose’s experience and veteran presence could be valuable for the Grizzlies, especially considering the impending suspension of their star point guard, Ja Morant.

With Morant set to serve a 25-game suspension, Memphis is in need of additional guard depth and scoring options. The addition of Rose would help fill that void and provide stability to the team during Morant’s absence.

The Grizzlies were active during the NBA draft, making a trade with the Boston Celtics to acquire Marcus Smart. Smart’s defensive prowess combined with Rose’s offensive capabilities would make for an intriguing backcourt duo.

Rose’s signing with the Grizzlies demonstrates the team’s commitment to staying competitive despite the temporary setback of Morant’s suspension. The combination of Rose and Smart would provide a solid foundation for Memphis to maintain their playoff aspirations and keep the team afloat until Morant’s return.

Roses arrival will undoubtedly bring valuable experience and leadership to a team in need of support in the backcourt.
