ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Early Friday Morning that the Dolphins are bringing in two more candidates to interview.
The Dolphins are looking for a new Head Coach after they fired their former Head Coach Brian Flores in what was a shocking move on January 10th of this year. Flores is now suing the Dolphins, the NFL, and other teams alleging racial discrimination. He said in a joint statement with his lawyer that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,000 for every Dolphins loss in 2019 in effort to get the first overall pick in the draft. Ross and the Dolphins deny this, but NFL Network reports that a witness heard Ross make the offer to Flores.
There are what seems like two finalists for the open Head Coaching job — Mike McDaniel and Kellen Moore.
Mike McDaniel, 49ers Offensive Coordinator
49ers’ offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel arrived in Florida Thursday night for his Head Coach interview with the Dolphins that will take place on Friday.
As the 49ers offensive coordinator, McDaniel thrived in using star player Deebo Samuel in a multitude of different ways, getting him the ball on the ground, through the air, and any other way possible. He has been with the 49ers for five years and in the 2021-22 season — his only as the Offensive Coordinator — he showed that he is capable of getting creative in the way that an offense is run.
McDaniel helped lead the 49ers to the NFC Championship, where they lead most of the game and lost by a mere three points. He will provide creativity and efficiency wherever he goes, whether it is staying in San Francisco, going to Miami, or taking another job.
McDaniel is considered the front runner for the Dolphins job as of now and the Dolphins are very impressed with him, a source told The Sports Place.
Kellen Moore, Cowboys Offensive Coordinator
Cowboys’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is also scheduled for his Head Coach interview with the Dolphins. That interview will take place on Satuday.
Moore, 33, has been the Cowboys Offensive Coordinator for three years, leading the Cowboys high powered offense. He interviewed with the Broncos before they hired Nathaniel Hackett to become their new Head Coach.
Last year, he stayed with the Dallas Cowboys amid lots of speculation that he would take the Head Coaching job at his alma mater Boise State.
While he is not considered the top candidate for the Dolphins job, behind McDaniel, the Dolphins do have plenty of interest and Saturday’s interview could change their mind, a source told The Sports Place
