Lakers Waive DeAndre Jordan, Will Sign DJ Augustin

There is a sense of urgency as the season is coming to an end. The Los Angeles Lakers are making some moves.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, The Los Angeles Lakers will be waiving center DeAndre Jordan.

Jordan, 33, has averaged just over four points and 5.4 rebounds per game in an average of 12.8 minutes per game this season.

Jordan has played for five teams throughout his NBA career, including the Lakers, and hopes to continue his time in the NBA, according to a source.

To replace Jordan, Los Angeles plans to sign guard DJ Augistin to back up star Russell Westbrook, amid a shaky season.

Lakers Head Coach Frank Vogel has shown no fear in leaving Westbrook on the bench over the stretch of the season. Augistin could serve as a good, established 34-year old veteran guard to eat up some minutes.

Augustin last played for the Rockets in 2021. He has averaged 9.6 points per game over his 14 year career, playing with ten teams not including the Lakers.

Los Angeles will also sign forward Wenyen Gabriel to a two-way contract. He will provide good depth for the Lakers in the event of an injury.

The Lakers are currently the ninth seed in the Western Conference, sitting at 27-33. They are 3.5 games back of the Clippers — who are sitting in 8th place. The ninth seed would put the Lakers in the play-in tournament, giving them an opportunity to get into the actual playoffs.
