Ole Miss RB Zach Evans Met With 19 NFL Teams Ahead Of The Draft: Source

Ole Miss running back Zach Evans has had an interesting collegiate athletics experience and now he’s bound to the NFL.

Coming out of high school, Evans was a five-star recruit ranked by ESPN and was the number one overall player coming out of the state of Texas. He was originally committed to play football at Georgia until he was suspended from the State Championship game for breaking a cell-phone rule. He was released from his National Letter of Intent due to the incident.

Looking for a new home, Evans decided to stay close to his own home by committing to play for the TCU Horned Frogs. He would stay at TCU for two seasons before transferring to Ole Miss in 2022.

At Ole Miss in 2022, the now-NFL Draft prospect rushed for 936 yards and had nine rushing touchdowns as Ole Miss had an 8-5 record. Evans declared for the Draft shortly after the season.

Going through the NFL Draft process, Evans has met formally with 19 teams, a source told The Sports Place’s Arye Pulli. Four of the meetings were in-person and two of them were in-person “Top 30” visits with the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys.

Now, the draft is only a few days away and the 21 year old will be hearing his name called soon.

Among the teams that Evans has met with virtually, according to a source — the Kansas City Chiefs, Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and Minnesota Vikings.

Evans also met with the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers in Indianapolis, according to a source.

He is projected to be selected in the later parts of day two of the draft or early on in day three. At his pro day, he ran a 4.51 40-yard dash and impressed scouts with his NFL-back build and readiness.

One scout said of Evans, the 5’11”, 200 pound back:

“He’s a guy that has the potential to be an instant impact for a team. He’s one of the most NFL ready backs in the draft. Super slept on.”
