Kiké Hernandez Rejoins Dodgers, Red Sox Recieve Two Relievers

The MLB trade market is heating up as we race towards the August 1st trade deadline.

The first big name to go has a familiar path to follow. Boston Red Sox ‘superutilityman’ Enrique (Kiké) Hernández was sent back to sunny Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dodgers exchanged two right-handed bullpen arms for the playoff hero. The lurching Nick Robertson had a brief stint in the Dodgers bullpen before going back to Triple-A for more work. Justin Hagenman has worked his way through the minors since he got drafted by LA in 2018.

They both have solid numbers and should be reliable additions to the desperate Boston pitching staff. More importantly for Red Sox fans, this move signifies the progress of Trevor Story’s rehab. Hernández, who leads the league in errors with 15, has spent the majority of the season at shortstop.

Story underwent right elbow surgery in January, and reports are speculating his return may come as soon as this weekend.

Kiké broke out as a member of the Dodgers and spent six years playing in the Chavez Ravine before signing with the Red Sox in early 2021. He became a Boston legend in the ‘21 playoffs and resigned for one more year in late 2022.

Since that magical ‘21 season, his offense has been in clear decline. His numbers seem to fall off a cliff. This season is just reinforcing those ideas. He is hitting .222 with only six home runs and 31 RBI.

Hernández, a part of the 2020 championship Dodgers, will meet up with old teammates in Los Angeles as they look to become World Series champions once again.
