Report: Chiefs Part Ways With Marquez Valdes-Scantling

After two seasons and two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, Marquez Valdes-Scantling will now be looking for a new home.

Kansas City will be releasing the veteran receiver, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler– as they shift their focus to retaining free-agents L’Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones. The move will clear up around $12M in cap space.

MVS was criticized early on in the season for his crucial drop in Week 1 vs the Lions, but emerged as a reliable option at times throughout the season.

By releasing him before free agency begins, the Chiefs give Valdes-Scantling a headstart in finding a new home. One potential option– a reunion with Aaron Rodgers. If the Jets don’t end up signing a big-name receiver in free-agency, he could pose as a splash signing for them in the tail-end of the offseason.

Scantling had 78 receptions for 1,252 receiving yards in his two seasons with the Chiefs. He had six touchdown catches, one of them being in Kansas City’s most recent Super Bowl victory vs the San Francisco 49ers.
