Sandy Alcantara Throws CG Shutout In Marlins win

Sandy Alcantara threw six complete games in 2022 and took home the NL Cy Young award. Can he do it again? Well, after Tuesday, he’s already 17% of the way there.

On Opening Day, Alcantara had an average first start of the season against the New York Mets. He pitched into the sixth, but gave up three earned runs. The Marlins lost 5-3.

On Tuesday, it was a different story. Sandy mowed down the Twins hitters with ease. The first hit he gave up was in the fourth inning, which was an infield single by Twins LF Trevor Larnach.

After that, he only gave up two more hits. He struck out five and only walked one. You can tell that the pitch clock favors him. The game took one hour and 57 minutes, which is the fastest game of the season so far.

The problem has always been the Marlins hitting, and they showed that again in this game. They were only able to score one run, that being a solo homerun by Avisail Garcia in the 2nd inning. Maybe if they pitched Alcantara every night, they’d be a winning ball club.
