Shanahan: Purdy To Resume Throwing This Week

Shanahan: Purdy To Resume Throwing This Week

Brock Purdy was one of the most fascinating stories in the NFL last season, but it all came crashing down in the NFC Championship. During the key game, Purdy suffered a torn UCL in his elbow.

On March 10, he underwent surgery to repair the injury. The surgery was originally scheduled to take place a few weeks prior, but swelling had not gone down in his elbow.

Now, Purdy is ahead of schedule on his expected three-month recovery process as 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan said last Tuesday that the quarterback is expected to resume throwing “next week.”

San Francisco has OTA’s scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week, which will give the second-year quarterback ample opportunity to begin his throwing program.

When asked about the possibility of Purdy being ready for training camp, Shanahan said “only God knows.”

The 49ers, though, have a quarterback room loaded with talent. Trey Lance is returning from a surgery on his right ankle and the 49ers also added Sam Darnold via free-agency this offseason.

“We have two guys [Lance and Darnold] who are talented enough to be taken in the top five of the draft,” Shanahan said, “And we have another guy [Purdy] who played like it last year.”
