Yankees DFA Aaron Hicks

Yankees fans rejoice, your front office has finally listened. The New York Yankees designated long-time pinstripe wearer Aaron Hicks on Saturday.

Late into the night of Friday the 19th, the Yankees were deep in trade talk with the enemy, the Boston Red Sox.

A minor league swap that saw a right-handed reliever make the move to Boston in exchange for switch-hitting outfielder Greg Allen.

It seems as if Allen is going to make the jump to the majors, as the Yankees informed veteran Hicks that his services are no longer needed.

Hicks has been a staple in the Yankees outfield since the 2016 season. After a career season in 2018 where he finished 22nd in MVP voting, the Yankees signed him to a 7-year $77 million contract in early 2019. A moment that has bitten the Yankees in the years following. His OBP and OPS+ at .366 and 127 respectively, are numbers that Hicks only wishes he can replicate.

Before he was informed of the DFA, Hicks had been batting a jaw-droppingly bad .188 with a -0.5 Wins Above Replacement and a ridiculous 47 OPS+.

The Yankees owe Hicks over $20 million through 2025.
