Teddy Bridgewater Signing with Detriot Lions

Teddy Bridgewater is bringing his talents to the Motor City. According to multiple sources, the Detroit Lions are signing the veteran to a contract. Details of the agreement were not immediately available.

He is expected to become the backup of the 2016 first-overall pick, Jared Goff.

Detroit had reportedly shown interest in the 30-year-old since March and hosted him on a visit weeks prior to the August 7th signing.

He joins a quarterback room including: Goff and backups Hendon Hooker, Adrian Martinez, and Nate Sudfeld.

After being drafted by Minnesota and spending three years with the Vikings, the quarterback out of Louisville hopped from the Saints to the Panthers to the Broncos and then the Dolphins.

The Lions will be his fourth team in as many years.

Sudfeld is a career backup, starting with Philidelphia and joining the Lions in 2022. Martinez is an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State. Hendon Hooker was the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers, where he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022. The 25-year-old prospect tore his ACL in November of ‘22.

While Bridgewater was in New Orleans during the 2018 and ‘19 seasons, so was Lions head coach Dan Campbell. Campbell was the Tight End’s coach.

Coming off the bench in 2019 for the Saints, Bridgewater went 5-0 as a starter and was a tremendous benefactor in the Broncos’ 3-0 start in 2021.

Bridgewater is a .500 quarterback in the league, going 33-32 over 65 NFL starts. He has thrown for 15120 yards, 75 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions.

The Lions are full of young stars as they look to compete in a rebranded NFC North.
