Week 3 MLB Power Rankings

1. Tampa Bay Rays (12-0)

The Rays are still undefeated and are definitely the best team in baseball right now. They still haven’t played any great competition, but that will change after their next series which is against the Toronto Blue Jays. Tampa Bay’s offense has been way better than I thought, and they are showing off their depth.

2. Atlanta Braves (9-4)

After losing three of four to the Padres, they bounced back with a sweep of the Reds. All of those games were won by one run. On Monday, Sean Murphy had his first big moment In Atlanta, as he hit a walkoff homerun in the 10th inning.

3. Milwaukee Brewers (8-4)

After scoring a bunch of runs on the Mets, Milwaukee has been pretty inconsistent at the plate. Now, they get the Padres and Mariners coming up. They will have to score runs against those two teams. A good sign for the Brewers is Corbin Burnes finally had a good start, going 8 innings and allowing no runs.

4. New York Yankees (8-4)

The Yanks have won two series in a row against good teams. The pitching has arguably been the best in the league up to this point. On Tuesday, they scored 11 runs on the Guardians, which included a three run blast by Franchy Cordero. He has the same amount of homers as Aaron Judge.

5. Toronto Blue Jays (8-4)

The Jays are super hot right now as they have won 7 of the last 8. They have been the best offense in the league and the bullpen hasn’t been horrible. Now they get the even more red hot Rays.

6. Minnesota Twins (8-4)

The Twins have been pitching very good. They have only allowed 32 runs, which is 2nd best in the league. The offense has struggled, but it has a ton of potential. Next up they face the Yankees, so don’t expect a lot of runs being scored.

7. Arizona Diamondbacks (8-5)

How about these D-Backs. They win three against the Dodgers and two against the Brewers. The only problem is their run differential sits at a -2, meaning a drop off will likely happen at some point.

8. New York Mets (7-6)

The Mets got destroyed by the Brewers, but they’ve been pretty good since. They just took two of three from the Padres, getting revenge for their playoff loss last season. Pete Alonso leads the league with six homeruns.

9. San Diego Padres (7-6)

The Padres are not even close to their best, yet they have a winning record. They won three out of four against the Braves and were able to get one against the Mets. Manny Machado and Juan Soto have both been hitting poorly. That will change soon.

10. Los Angeles Dodgers (7-6)

The Dodgers offense has been putting up runs, but the pitching has lost them games. They really don’t have a trustworthy bullpen arm currently. The Dodgers are the Dodgers, so they will be fine.

11. Cleveland Guardians (7-6)

Cleveland has lost two series in a row, but there is nothing to be worried about. The schedule over the next month is very easy. If Josh Bell can start hitting like the first half of last season, they are one of the best teams in the AL.

12. Houston Astros (6-7)

It’s tough to drop a team like the Astros this low, but they don’t look anywhere near the team that won it all last year. Obviously it will get better, but for now this is where they belong. The question is where would they be without Yordan Alvarez?

13. Texas Rangers (7-5)

The Rangers have seemed to go back to where they were last season after the Phillies sweep. Their new big money starters haven’t looked great. Now, Corey Seager is headed to the IL. The Astros are up next for Texas.

14. Los Angeles Angels (7-5)

The Angels took one game from the Blue Jays and won their series against the Nationals. Hunter Renfroe has been very good lately and Shohei Ohtani keeps dominating.

15. St. Louis Cardinals (5-7)

It has been rocky for the Cardinals. Speaking of rocky, they just beat the Rockies two out of three times. Maybe that got them back on track. The reason they haven’t been good is the starting pitching is horrendous. They have a four game series with the Pirates next.

16. Chicago Cubs (6-5)

After losing the first two series of the new season, the Cubs have won the last two. Their new middle infield is killing it and Marcus Stroman has been one of the best pitchers in the league so far. They play the Dodgers seven times in the next two weeks, which could be a problem.

17. Pittsburgh Pirates (7-5)

The Pirates won two against the White Sox and one against the Astros. Bryan Reynolds looks like an MVP candidate through 12 games.

18. Miami Marlins (6-7)

Miami got crushed in their first game against Philly, but bounced back with two wins. It looks like they won the Luis Arraez trade, because he looks like he will win another batting title. He hit for the cycle on Tuesday.

19. Baltimore Orioles (6-6)

The O’s got one against the Yankees and they will win the series against the A’s. Ryan Mountcastle leads the league in RBI and Adley Rutschman continues to crush baseballs. The pitching has been very bad as expected.

20. Seattle Mariners (5-8)

The Mariners got back at the Guardians by winning a series against them. After that, they lost two of three to the Cubs. The good news for the M’s is Jarred Kelenic looks like he is breaking out right now. He launched a 482 foot blast to dead center on Wednesday.

21. Chicago White Sox (5-8)

Chicago has lost four of the last six games. They have averaged two runs in the last four games. They can’t seem to get it all to click all at once.

22. Philadelphia Phillies (4-8)

The Phillies won their series against Cincy, but lost two of three against the Marlins. They exploded for 15 runs on Monday, but outside of that the offense hasn’t been good. The bullpen management has been questionable as well. On the other hand, Bryson Stott has a 12-game hitting streak.

23. Boston Red Sox (5-7)

It has been a lot of up and down for Boston. They got swept by the Pirates, swept the Tigers, and now are about to get swept by the Rays. Rafael Devers and Adam Duvall have carried them offensively, but now Duvall is headed to the IL. The only bright spot on the pitching staff has been Nick Pivetta.

24. San Francisco Giants (5-7)

San Fran got one against the Royals and one against the Dodgers. Thairo Estrada and Anthony DeSclafani have been very good for them. The back of the bullpen has been shaky. They have a chance to get back on track against the Tigers.

25. Colorado Rockies (5-8)

The Rockies split with the Nationals and took one from the Cardinals. There’s really not much to like about this team besides C.J. Cron moonshots and Kyle Freeland pitching very well. For now.

26. Washington Nationals (4-9)

The Nationals were so close to taking the series against the Angels. It doesn’t really matter anyway. This team isn’t built to win.

27. Cincinnati Reds (4-7)

The Reds were off to such a hot start (for them) before losing six out of the last seven. Nick Lodolo is impressing early on.

28. Kansas City Royals (4-9)

The Royals won a game against the Giants and one against the Rangers. It’s crazy to think that when you actually score runs, you win games. This Royals team is going to need a lot more runs to keep up.

29. Oakland Athletics (3-9)

Esteury Ruiz looks like the real deal. The pitching needs to improve a lot.

30. Detroit Tigers (2-9)

I just want to see Miguel Cabrera hit.
